Homemade Laundry Detergent

Back again with another SUPER easy DIY replacement for those toxic household products! Today's recipe for powdered laundry detergent has just 3 ingredients.  At this point, I honed in on the recipes for household/beauty products, so I make them in big batches so I don't have to make them as often.  I will say that the only clothes I am washing right now are mine and my husband's.  That being said, our clothes don't really get "dirty."  We don't have kids, so I can't say for certain if it would be a great detergent for grass stains and other dirty spots.  Our clothes always come out smelling great and clean like they do with any commercial detergent.

  • 1 Bar of Dr. Bronner's soap* (Grated)- Grating the soap is the hardest part
  • 4 Cups of Borax
  • 4 Cups of Washing Soda

Combine all ingredients and mix well!  I store ours in a large glass jar.  Use 2-3 tablespoons per load.  You can also add a few drops of tea tree oil if you feel like it's an extra stinky load!  When adding the oil I start the washing machine, let it fill with some water, add the tea tree oil, let it mix in, and then add the clothes.
